Ferrotec computer seals are utilized in hard disk drives, which are the memory devices of computers. The disk drive consists of the memory disks, read-write heads and a small rotating spindle motor. The head function at a distance of only 0.1µm from the rotating disks for readwrite and erasure of data. This distance is referred as the “Flying Height” of the heads. Foreign particles, or contamination such as cigarette smoke which is approximately 0.6µm in size, may invade into the harddisk assembly and cause erasure of data on the disks or cause a head crash on the disks. The computer seal protects the head-disk assembly from contaminants as small as 0.1µm in size and from vapors that may be harmful to the assembly. Thus, the computer seal is a “protector for PC brains”.

We produce the most of the computer seals used in disk drive spindle motors and we have expanded our production capabilities to meet the expected increase in demand which will be driven by the development of MR head technology and the expanding hardware product lines.
